Our Story

The Brothers

The Villiers
Harry, Tim and Hugo

Originally the business consisted of three brothers - Harry, Tim and Hugo, a wooden farm building and a determination to create beautiful and strikingly different pieces of furniture to the highest quality.

An encounter in 1989 led to commissions for Christopher Neville, The Royal Opera House and Liberty of London. At that point Villiers: Handmade in England came into being.

After many years of working together, Villiers is now managed solely by Tim Villiers and the team.

We are experts in our field, bringing innovative designs and vision to life with traditional workmanship and the finest materials.

Combining modern technologies with sustainable practices and a highly skilled team of artisans, Villiers is proud to create luxury bespoke designer furniture and sculptured works of art.

Every Villiers piece is made to order, whether we are working to an existing design, or a one-off commission. No project is rushed. We take the time to fully understand and appreciate a client’s requirements before work begins.

The Materials

We use a blend of industrial and fine metals, stone, glass and solid woods to create elegant modern originals.

For every individual piece of fine furniture and sculpture, we allocate a generous amount of studio time for initial design, consultation and iterations. This is followed by scheduled time in the Villiers workshop for forging, building, polishing and perfecting each item.

We pride ourselves on our superior craftsmanship, attention to detail, distinctive finishes and breathtaking results.

Sustainability

The Villiers Sustainability Pledge

Having become aware that we have to change the way we do what we do to save our beautiful planet, Villiers produce items that are made using predominantly recycled materials and strive to reduce  our impact on the planet when possible, using Ecotricity and supporting marine conservation and the woodland trust.

Interestingly, in the 5th century BC Plato complained that "the loss of timber had denuded the hills and plains surrounding Athens and caused massive soil erosion."[19] Cicero also noted "we (humans) are the masters of what the earth produces," and "all things in this world which men employ have been created and provided for the sake of men."[20] If they could see the world today then... Time for Change.
